Institut français du Nigéria hosted a conversation with the author Unoma Azuah, in its new library.
Unoma Azuah is a professor of English at Wiregrass Georgia Technical College, Georgia, USA. Her research focuses on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ) rights. She is one of the first Nigerian scholars to introduce LGBTQ rights as a topic in the Nigerian universities. Her style of writing and her use of art and creativity to give visibility to Queer voices are innovative.
During the conversation, Unoma shared excerpts of her just released memoir, Embracing My Shadow. We also discussed her youth in South-East Nigeria, her writing skills and her home memories, in line with the July / August theme of the Institut français du Nigéria program.
